my friends drive it the same way i do. and i kind of a germaphobe, always using instant hand stuff to clean my hands. It was just weird that from the recent road trip a friend would drive, nothing for him, then i would and get little pieces of black plastic or wahtever on me, then another friend would and he wouldnt.

Yes I believe this does have to do with the sweat and oil from your hands. The best solution would be to go to your local auto part store and purchase a steering wheel cover. They come in all textures and colors so find one to your liking and enjoy.

When a car is parked outside for most of its life the rubber compounds break down in the interior from heat and cold.

I clean my steering wheel as often as I clean the windows or wash my car. Some of the stuff is from your hands and from stuff you may be working on and then grab the wheel. I have a bad habit of not cleaning my hands while tinkering on the car and then grab the wheel for a test drive or to crank the engine.

The high temperatures in Summer make the wheel sweat and it gets sticky sometimes and any dirt on my hands will stick to it and have to be cleaned off when I get around to it.

If your friends don't have the same experience, it may be that they are slightly afraid when driving your car and their hands are very dry. White knuckle driving can make some people high and dry while others sweat.

Good Luck!

I doubt you sweat is the culprit. You better cover the steering with a steering cover preferably a material which will absorb your sweat.

you may have a high acidity balance. but it wouldn't cause it to come off that bad unless it's and old sterring wheel. that's dry rotten then that would happen to everybody that drives the car but not as bad.
