Ok this is the story...A board fell on my left foot over my 2nd and 3rd toes. It broke one of my nails brused my toes and one of my toes bled pritty bad...This was on Sunday, I didnt have anything at home so all I did was wash it off and put a bandaid to cover the cuts. The next day I went out and bought peroxide. I have used it twice a day since Monday and its still fussing up and still bleeding. Is there anyone out there with suggestions on what I can do? Would I have to go in and see a doctor to help stop the bleeding? Someone please help. I would really appricate it. Thanks!

I would recommend seeing a doctor. It's been over two days, it should not still be bleeding unless you keep reopening the wound by walking on that foot. I don't know how deep it is, but it may need stitches to help it stay shut so that it can begin healing.

If you have continued bleeding, there are two choices.

1. Clean the wound, put an antibiotic ointment on, and apply a bulky dressing which puts pressure directly on the wound. Leave this for a couple of days and do not bother the wound. It should have time to begin the healing process.

2. Go get it evaluated by a healthcare provider to determine if it needs stitches. If the wound is deep it may do well with stitches.

As this is a couple of days old, as you have not mentioned drainage or signs of infection, I would go with the first choice.

All bleeding short of major vessels will stop if left with pressure on it for an adequate period.

Bulky dressing = several guaze pads, some guaze wrapping (Kling or Kerlix) and tape.

I am not a doctor. However, I was taught to dilute the peroxide 50/50 with water. You might be keeping your blood from clotting by doing the peroxide thing. You need to elevate it and stay off of it. having it below your heart and walking on it also could be contributing to it. Wrap it in gauze or gauze pads and put pressure on it, keep it elevated and call the doctor in the morning. You need to be seen.

Go and see a doctor immediately. He will clean it and also will remove the broken part of the nail from the wound.
