Paramecium is called shoe animalcule. It is covered with cilia.
It has one broad end and one tapering end. One area in the middle line has groove where you find cytostome which opens in the gut. It has two nuclei: oval, large macronucleus and a small rounded micronucleus. The endoplasm has a contractile vacuole with radiating canals; and there may a couple of food vacuoles. At one end of the body there is a cytopyge called cell anus from where the waste matter is discharged. Paramecium is an important component of the food chain of pond ecosystem.
