Captain Crunch needed the longitude and latitude to find the shipwreck with his map.
Using the longitude and latitude to find the proper location on the map helped the people get to the the end of the race before the deadline.
Using the vertical and horizontal lines on a map which are also called the longitude and latitude you can locate places easily.

latitude is vertical. and longitude is horizontal. but make them a little bit better than that.
