Once again...(I've answered this ten times in the last two days!) The rule is from the american deep south and it applied to SHOES and handbags only. Almost all fashion stylists and experts say the rule is archaic and arcane and it doesn't need to be followed by anyone any longer. Dress for the weather where you are, if that means summery whites, then go for it. There's nothing wrong with white after labor day!

I don't know. I guess it is just a traditional trend but I still wear white and I see other people wearing white so I think it is OK to wear white if you want to. But I heard that people aren't suppose to wear white shoes or pants after Labor Day but you never want to wear white pants in the winter anyways. If you want to wear light colored then tan or cream is OK but never white pants in the winter!

you can't wear white shoes after labor day because traditionally boating shoes were white, and Labor Day use to mark the last day of boating season.
