1901 through 2000. Remember a century ends with the first number you might relate to that century and centuries do not begin with zeroes because there was never a zero year. Thus the first century was 1-100, the second 101-200, etc. Therefore like the first century is not years that begin with100, but the hundred years leading up to it, the 20th century would not be the years that begin with 2000, but the last 100 years leading up to it, which would be 1901-2000.

It's a century in time. but if you mean the modern Era that would be now. it was started after the world war's when creative people wanted to test what is art to the extreme. this is when weird art styles like Da da was founded (imagine plastic toilet seats and mona lisa w/ moustache).
the 20th century is also the 3rd industrial revolution. many people don't know this but we are living through it now. it is changing industrialized nations rapidly. the internet and other transportion and communnication innovations are the main highlights of this revolution. in the old days people would eat meals together but let me ask you, do you? also do you write letters? these are prime examples of the great and fast changes occuring in our lives today.
btw im only 17 if you think im a f****** old geezer....

What IS the 20th century? Well, it's passed - we are now in the 21st century, so the 20th century was that quaint period of roughly a hundred years ago, when people managed to exist without computers, televisions, cell phones or spandex.

When calculating the century from 1 AD to 99 AD they call it the first century. From 100 AD to 199 is the second century and so forth. Year 2000 is the 21th century.

I know that's confusing, but the current era begins with the year 1-99= 1st century... then right on down the line. This is to say that our year is 2007, this is the 21st century.

James has the most accurate answer. I don't have enough points to vote for his answer.
Maybe my explanation will help:
If you are 20 yrs old, you are actually living in your 21st year, as you have already lived a whole 20 years.
We've already completed 2000 years, so we are in our 21st century as of the date James explained.
