Don't. Sell it outright - you'll get more for it. The stores have to offer you less than what its worth because they have to turn around and sell it for about what its worth. There is no sense in the store doing this for nothing, as there are risks involved to the store, such as the guitar may need hidden maintenance. Check Ebay for latest prices to give you a good idea, or check the latest version of the guitar "Blue Book" of guitar values to see what you should sell it for. If you need cash fast, selling it outright might be for you, but you will not get anywhere near what it is worth - usually about 1/3 of its real value. Trading it in gets you about 2/3 of its value. Outright sale by owner outside of a guitar store gets you about 100% of its value. Its obvious which one is the smartest. If your guitar was purchased new it is probably worth about half of what you paid for it now. If you bought it used, it should be worth approximately the same if it is in similar condition to the time you bought it. If you believe that selling the guitar might be difficult, a trade-in might be the way to go - especially if you see a great guitar that you want to upgrade to and can't swing it any other way. Good luck.

More than likely not for anything near what you paid for it. You have to remember that the stores has to make money off of the resell of used instruments .

If you want anything like a reasonale vaule paid for it you should sell it in the paper yourself.

I don't think so - Sam Ash doesn't move a lot of brass instruments and I think they only sell new horns. Besides, they will not give you a fair market value. Post it on eBay - that's your best bet!
