The word purpose implies an intelligent design so your question really requires a God.
Unless you assume a God, the question of life’s purpose is meaningless.” –Bertrand Russell
We can invent things to do with our life, but that's not purpose. If we do invent things, they will inevitably be invented with the objective of making ourselves feel good.
So if we reject God, there is no purpose and our objective becomes to do those things in life that will make us feel good about ourselves so we can get through a purposeless, meaningless life.
