The food varies from school to school and from dining hall and restaurants across a given campus. What you'll want to do is sample from each menu at the different facilities and find what suits you best. The good thing about college food is that there's so much of it - that's why so many people end up gaining the "freshman forty." There will be alot of variety too, so you won't go hungry. The dining hall where I most frequently eat has Vietnamese noodle bowls, fresh gourmet salads, pasta bars, Mexican food, full on salad bars, plus the usual burgers, chicken sticks, fries, tuna salad, and most anything else you can think of. Other schools I've gone to have had equally good food with a similar variety of offerings.

I would ask at the schools you're looking at. I know where I went to school they said there were vegetarian options, then I got there and found out that /green beans/ (cooked with ham, of course) were the "vegetarian" option. I ended up having to move off campus because there was NOTHING that I could eat (I got tired of eating breakfast cereal for breakfast and dinner, and pb&j for lunch every day). So ask specific questions. If you can't go visit the school, call and talk to the campus dietician or nutritionist who oversees the service contracts.

my school's got a lot of different options for meals. there's the traditional cafeteria which is all you can eat, but it's only good for breakfast at 7am. they also have sack lunches you can take out which are decent. then there's a crappy burger joint and a sub shop. those 3 are in the same building. on the other end of campus is "the galley" which has a respectable breakfast. then their lunch subs are good, but they don't work for your regular meal plan. there's a pasta place also in the galley. then downstairs we have the cellar which is burgers, subs, quesadillas, soup and that kind of stuff. they have live entertainment there some nights, so it's usually pretty fun. there are lots of options.

It varies, but a lot of food is prepared by the same catering companies that 'service' the high schools. You usually have a choice of eating venues on campus, however, so you may be able to shop around.

Kind of like hospital cafeteria, and taste just like it too. However, don't worry about it so much because you will have it works out that you still can have your fast food joint.

Its actually much better than high school because it is usually commercial stuff made by local restaurants and fast food. They have to provide better choices because your now paying out of pocket for everything!

You shouldn't be spending your money on food in college. It should be spent on beer. You can survive off of Ramen noodles.
