it's a sign that your alternator is going out. get it fixed fast before it dies on you while you are driving. this happened to me earlier this year, but luckily i made it to my driveway.

the two circuits (speedometer and brake warning lamp) have nothing in common other than the printed circuit on the gauge assembly that routes the signals from the various sensors and switches to the gauges and warning lamps. So, if the speedometer stopped working at the same time that the parking brake warning light came on then youhave to suspect that the printed circuit in the gauge assembly burnt out and interrupted the flow of electricity on those two paths. There is no other place that the two circuits have anything in common.

if the incidents happened at different times (ex: parking brake light came on two days after the speedometer stopped working) then you're looking at two separate failures with two separate causes. otherwise, the problem is in the gauge assembly.

typically if the car has an alternator problem the seat belt light will come on and the battery will drain because of a bad diode in the alternator. that shouldn't be the case with your car.

hope that helps
