Archy and Edith were more than a riot. They were the very first to come out boldly and challenge the establishment about the rights of women and male chauvinist pigs. Most of us didn't realize it at the time and that was what made it so funny, we were laughing at ourselves. My hat is off to both of them for dramatizing something we were only thinking about at the time, The Women's Liberation Movement.

The show made me a tad uncomfortable at times because I grew up with guys like Archie. Norman Lear hit the nail on the head with the locale of the Bunker's residence. A lower middle class, single family dwelling in the borough of Queens. A place where a lot of people who engaged in "white flight" beginning in the 1950s in Brooklyn wound up.
Carroll O'Conner's portrayal of Archie was a sterling piece of acting. Few knew at that point that O'Conner had been a classically trained actor by way of Trinity College in Dublin.

Yes and Archie did a lot for civil rights by showing ignorance and giving us a laugh. Edith was so much like my kind gentle clueless step sister. Never had a mean thought in her life. Those were the days!

Yep! "Those were the Days!" LOL! He was such a racist!! Noone could ever get by with a show like that now! But, he was a hoot with it though.
Edith, she reminded me of too many of the little church ladies at church! Quiet, a little mousy, shies away and yet, smarter than you think!
I don't think we missed an episode of that as it was so funny! I loved the relationship between Archie and "Bonehead!" LOL! Good memories!

Yes, it brings back fond memories. Edith was just like my bet friends mother, even the voice and the run around with the beer in her hand chasing her husband. Loved Gloria and Meathead and little Joey

I sure do. One of the funniest TV shows ever.
When I met my husband and he asked what my parents were like, I actually told him that my Dad was Archie Bunker.

Archy was so like my dad it was scary...whole family would be amazed as we watched and even dad was amused. But I never heard Archy yell " I'm gonna kick a lung out of you" at his dog. Dad never did it but that was his big threat when old pooch misbehaved.

Yes, they sure don't make shows like they used to. I miss all those old shows, and Carroll O'Conner was a great actor. I also thought he was great in The Heat of the Night. He seemed to fit right in with whatever role he wanted to play.

My husband and I were talking about this just the other night when we were watching "How the West Was Won". So many wonderful old movies and actors then. And so many good entertainment series on TV.

Yes I do, and I still watch the reruns. They need more shows like the ones in the good old days.
