The high is just getting light headed. until your body gets used to smoking and having a reduction in the air intake then you will continue to get the high. if you want to get the same high just hyperventalate a few times. idk why people seem to think that you get attached and you have no choice to go back. how did you get started in the first place? you should be able to quit for the same reason you got addicted. you may crave it but then again dont you crave really good food? how about investing the money you have spent just on cigs alone? im pretty sure most smokers would be millionares right now. a pack of cigs costs 6 bucks here. thats 24 bucks a day for the guy who smoked 4 packs a day. Thats close to 9k a year. if you were to take that money and invest it each year i think you would get the idea. it would give you something better to do then smoke. and for the people who seem to think that my answer seems like ive never smoked or been addicted to anything, well you are right. i have not been so addicted to where i could not stop. maybe its because i have enough self control and will power to keep myself from doing the wrong thing? if you have the craving why not just say um no? i just really makes me mad when people say they just cant quit. well if you get the craving either you satisfy it or you dont.

You were obviously never a smoker. I started when I was young, in High School. By the time I was getting out of school, I was smoking a pack a day of Chesterfields (Easy to swipe, no filter). I was very stupid, very young, and wish my parents did a lot more to dissuade me from smoking.

You point out the obvious, there's no point. If it was that easy, no one would ever even start smoking let alone quit.

As to answer your question, after 18 years of smoking, I am physically and mentally addicted. This is not an excuse and I try at least once a month to quit and never seem to get over the hump.

I know people who haven't smoked in 20 years that say they still long for a cigarette every now and then, but unless you were or are a smoker, you would not understand.

Hi Kitsune,

I am addicted to smoking, yes I know it's supposedly bad for my health. But then again I toke to lesser of two evils. If the goverment really wanted everyone to quit then all the smoking cessation drugs would be free so people could stop, but it's a habit as you know like anything else. Besides when I don't smoke I am a bit ch (yes I quit for a year in a half-sister-in-law passed & a good friend also-1puff lead to pack & pack to carton at least I don't smoke 3 packs a day, & really it's my CHOICE.
Have a good night. :0)
Additional Details:cigarette smoking, booze, drugs all habit forming. Some choice different habits is all I can say. What you don't have any habits? (cleaning, shopping, obessing about others smoking, obesity, junk food etc.etc.)

I started smoking when I was 8 years old (I can't imagine that now that I have a 16 year old son...he seems so young). I'm always thinking of how old he is and the things I was doing at his age.

Anyway, I continue to smoke because I gave up drugs and alcohol 16 years ago (hence my avatar) and I am NOT going to give up my cigarettes and caffeine!

Please, if you have never smoked or have thought that maybe you should try it, please reconsider. It will kill you.

Miss Ellie, I'm dying from it too. I know what you mean. I'm 44, 60% decreased capacity, irregular rapid heartbeat. I have spots on my lungs that they will not biopsy unless they "change" because they said I cannot afford to lose any more lung tissue. I was told in November of last year that I had lung cancer only to be told 4 days later (after the biopsy in my bronchial tubes) that they made a "mistake" and that my lungs are just too weak to eradicate the crap that most people can cough up. They said I will not see my son graduate. I think they're wrong there...

STOP! Did you ever smoke? You cannot assume to know what the point is about it. I was ADDICTED just like a heroin or crack addict. You need to read up on this smoking thing. I was addicted for 43 years until a new pill came on the market called Chantix. It stops the receptors in my brain from needing that nicotine. RESEARCH RESEARH....I couldn't begin to tell you my trials and errors in quitting...and don't you dare say it was because I didn't want to quit. That is not true for ME......I quit on July 9th with the help of , yes, a pill. ...whatever it was gonna take to get me off of them. You don't know until you been there. OK?

EDIT: YOU ARE WRONG...your hand or your mouth have nothing to do with the ADDICTION. They put stuff in the tobacco that is addicting to most smokers. You need to get your FACTS straight and your sources shown.....really

You are right, and it does bother me. I am 50 and been smoking since I was 12 years old. When I try to quit I get so annoyed and can't help but go back to it. My parents are 70 and 80 and they are still smoking and living. It's a very hard thing to quit. In my opinion, if you have to ask this question, you don't know how addictive and how hard to quit it is.

It relieves tension and regulates your breathing pattern in a way. Not only that but it feels good to suck it down into your lungs and just hold it there for a while. It feels kind of cleansing even though it isn't. It calms your nerves like crazy and makes you feel a little light headed. Almost high I guess is how some people relate to it.

Starting is a choice, but continuing isn't -- it is a very real biochemical addiction, and people who think you can just "decide" to quit have obviously never been there and are substituting personal opinion for scientific fact.
I know people who've quit alcohol, cocaine, heroin and/or meth who say that it's much harder to quit smoking.

I don't smoke, but I have tried Weed, and I've smoked out strawberry shisha out of a hookah.

The weed was out of ceriosity, and it tasted horrible. never again Will I do it.

The hookah, well it smelt really good, so I took a puff and it tasted good, so I did it a couple times more. but The shisha isn't bad, it only has a little bit of tabacco in it.
