Can anyone tell me more about how the Japanese use blood types to indicate personality?

The way westerners sometimes use astrological signs to show personality type? In the write-ups on Japanese characters in Anime, etc. the blood type is often given, but no explanation as to what it is supposed to "mean"... is there a website somewhere that explains this? Help!

They assign certain characteristics to specific blood types. There was an article recently in The Boston Sunday Globe. If you can access their web site, you might find it. It was about six weeks ago.
