Choose your friends carefully. Don't skip too much class. And while college is a time for "experimentation," do not hang out with drunks or drug abusers. They'll only drag you down with them. Most importantly, keep your education your number one priority. While it's important to have friends, don't let your social and personal life affect your decision making. You are there to get an education, and you need to always remember to do what is ultimately best for you.
I did everything I just told you not to when I went to college at age 18, and barely made it through my second year. Now I'm 23 and just now going back to pick up where I left off.

University is different from school in that there are fewer absolute requirements, so instead of just following the rules, create your own experience. Do more than just go to class and follow the assignments. You can either get through the university with a bare minimum of knowledge, or you can flourish and really remake yourself. I strongly recommend the latter.

I'd say the biggest thing is to make friends - particularly if you're in a dorm. Without friends to talk with, discuss homework/class, eat with, hang out with, life can get pretty miserable. Try to attend all your classes so you don't miss anything. Get sleep - oh man, this is important! I know college is the time to party and stuff, but if that's what you're interested in, trying keeping it weekends only. Don't go to class hungover... And space out your work. I know procrastination is fun lol, but if you leave it all for the end, then you're screwed. So... be diligent about that.
This is all general advice: I can get more specific if you tell me what aspect you want advice in particular. Like if you want to do well academically, I've got stuff for that.
