It was an urban legend created in 1997, but she is not a hermaphrodite. Here is a link to an interview that her mother did, stating that the rumor is false.

don't know she dropped out of acting for awhile to spend more time with her family. No she's happily married and has
been for a long time. I'm sure if her mom had an inkling of
this poor joke, she'd be rolling in her grave. That is Janet
Leigh, former wife to Tony Curtis, who is Jamie's dad by the
way. No she's perfectly normal on all accounts. Now you can
