So I got this parking ticket in the mail for 48 bucks, but I was never aware of this, they said I was in the city of Oakland, CA but I have no reason to go to that city, I never do business or know anybody in that city, I have no proof other then my own word. Is it possible someone could be using the same license plate number? or possibly the same vin number? I'm curious about this situation. I contested it by email but no response yet, and on top of this where would my paper ticket be? normally they put it on your windshield right? Please help im curious to know what the heck is going on.

hmm okay well the time of the issue was at 00.47 in the am but I know for a fact I was not in that city plus I had work the following day, and I don't let anyone borrow the car I am the only one who has the keys to this vehicle.

well the only thing I can do is just take a look at the actual ticket that was written, I Have a right to view it. If it matches not much I can do other then pay it.

Ask for a copy of the ticket including the vehicle description. It is most likely that the meter maid wrote a digit in license plate wrong and car will not be a match for yours. Tell them in your note that you were someplace else, particularly if you can prove it for the time and day (at work, in class, etc).

Is it possible someone borrowed your car for a short time? I think they probably wrote down the wrong plate number, I know here in MA I see people giving tickets and they just write down the plate number they don't check the vin number. I would call the town or city by phone or if you can go down there, and ask to see the ticket, to make sure it is your make model. If it has a time on the ticket, if you were working or have proof you were someplace else, you may be able to fight it. Good luck.

It's doubtful anyone else would have your license number, and impossible that anyone would have your VIN since that is unique to your car, and yours only.

When a parking ticket is issued, if it isn't paid in a timely manner they will run the owners address and follow up by mail. Although sometimes errors happen, and numbers get transposed, it's doubtful they would mess up both your license number and VIN. Possible you had loaned your car out to a friend? There should be a date on the ticket too. Maybe that was the week your Uncle was visiting, and took your car to do something?

there is only license plate issue to a car
the best to contest a ticket is via SNAIL (REGULAR MAIL)
that way you can it certified mail, return receipt
thats proof they received your contested
if you just email it you have no way of knowing
even got it, you dont know when it will be read
the ticketing agency might only have 1 person to read emails
and that person could even be on vacation! then they
and could being getting thousand of emails
and your email could even up in their spam ..
sometimes the parking officer might have typed in the wrong numbers too) and some times the ticket is posted on the windshield and blows away
PS did anyone else borrow your car?:

leave it to the LOVELY state of California to be the first to send out BOGUS PARKING TICKETS to people who weren't even where they are accused of parking... IF you were working that day in ANOTHER CITY, wouldn't you have a work record or ANYTHING that would put you somewhere OTHER then in the City of Oakland at the TIME that ticket was supposedly "earned"..... there should be a time and date stamp on your "ticket"... THINK back and try to remember where you were at that exact time or at least where your CAR was.... maybe someone BORROWED it for that day and didn't tell you they parked in Oakland? But if you can prove where you WERE all day, you can certainly prove you were not in Oakland...

Don't PAY first because that is an admission of guilt!!!!! if it wasn't a parking ticket but an ARREST WARRANT, would you pay THAT if you were INNOCENT?? HECK NO....but I bet if you think REALLY HARD, you can come up with a location you were at OTHER then Oakland on the date you SUPPOSEDLY received that parking ticket...

I would contact the city again, maybe by phone. It may be a case of someone mis reading the plate number. Or it may be a scam, I would make sure that it's legit.

Hard to say what happened but I think it would be to your advantage to pay this fine so your license doesn't get suspended. After that you can try to find out what happened and see what can be done about it.

they should have the copy of the ticket filed in the department...you should call to get this expedited faster (don't want a warrant). remember INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY
