The Cummins is hands down the best Diesel engine to go into Light Duty pickup trucks. It is too bad it is in Dodge pickups. You can ask many hardcore Diesel enthusiasts this question and if they have enough common sense they will admit that the 5.9 Cummins has proven to be the most reliable and longest lasting Diesel engine. 5.9's own all performance records such as high horsepower, quickest 1/4 mile times, sled pulling. Plus there are many more high-mile Cummins engines vs. Powerstrokes and Duramaxes, despite being way outnumbered by Powestrokes at the least.

the cummins is your best choice for durability & power & reliability.
Cummins has been under the hood of more transport trucks longer than most of the pick ups that are on the road today and will still be pulling your exports & imports long after that new chev dually with a powerstroke has been laid to rest in the boneyard.

Cummins diesels were around before the other 2. But that does not mean they are any better or worse. It all depends on what you need it for and what you want to spend.

They are all equally as good, all very good diesel engines.....
Neither Ford, Chevy or Dodge makes any of them, but they choose outside manufactures.... very smart for doing that.
