Yeah, I stepped on a bee once while near a nest. Those bees didn't give me one single problem until I stepped on that single bee and all hell broke loose. All the bees came flying out the nest after me. " I escaped with my hide in my teeth!"

When bees sting you they also release an alarm pheromone that makes other bees attack. I always run anytime a honey bee starts taking an interest in me. Don't worry about being buzzed by other bees but hornets and honey bees have pheromones that will make the whole hive attack.

Only because you were close to the hive when you stepped on it. Bees emit a distress pheromone that alerts the others to danger. Africanized bees are much more protective of the hive than European bees. Away from the hive, neither species would get excited if you stepped on one.
