Ok guys, I put a new distrubator in my S10 Blazer and I'm not sure if I set the rotor cap right in the right position, I had the # 1 piston in the up positon and set the rotor straight to the number 1wire on the cap (3 o'clock) but it won't start, I'm not sure if I have it set right, I'm not pro- mech so I really apreciate some help.

I own a shop, and the right way is this; Remove the #1 spark plug (front of engine on drivers side) and place your finger over the hole while a buddy hits the starter is short quick busts until it blow your finger off the hole. Now, you are on the compression stroke, so move the balancer by hand until its on the 0 or TDC mark. You may go which ever way with the balancer that is closest to the mark. Once you have it on 0 with the piston on compression stroke, follow the #1 wire to the cap, mark where it is in relation to engine, and remove the cap to see if the rotor is pointing at, or just before the #1 position on the cap. Wire your other wires in the direction the rotor turns when you bump the starter. The distributor must go all the way into the oil pump, so if it won't use a long screw drive to turn oil pump until it aligns, and the distributor goes all the way down. Now, rotate the distributor after making a mark on the dist where the #1 is (with cap on) and you should be able to sweep both sides of the mark on the dist by rotating the dist. If it won't sweep both sides, then you are in the wrong notch.
Glad to help out, Good Luck!!!

make sure that num. 1 piston on compression and not one exhaust and #1 should b pointing toward the front and driver side of the intake u can ck the piston to b on compression by putting u finger on the # 1 spark plug hole and turning the crankshaft and fill for pressure in the piston that should be top dead center and #1 piston should be on compression then set the distrubator back in it. And put the cap back on it and the wires and see what happend

You had #1 up but was it on compression or exhaust ? Must be on compression or you 180 out. Don't understand why a "98 would be needin" a new distributor.

Check your oxygen sensors bro? and mabie has ur service engine light come on yet? If so this sounds like a o2 sensore wich can be replaced for 30$ and amazingly enough if they are not working right ur car will run like Freakin crap. Btw oxygen sensors are on ur air box and your exhaust from headers all the way back.
