Radar detectors are completely legal to use in non-commercial vehicles. Virginia and Washington DC are the only 2 states in the United States that currently ban the use of radar detectors.

There is a federal law banning use of radar detectors in any commercial vehicle over 10,000 pounds. Radar detectors are also illegal on any military base.

IMHO, just stay within 5 mph of the limit, you will rarely to never get a ticket.

If you aren't a trucker, the only places where radar detectors aren't legal are Virginia and Washington, DC.

They used to be illegal in Connecticut, but have been legal there now for a few years.
