Im basically a plant serial killer. I dont mean to but I get them and they do good for a while, and then pretty soon they all die on me. What can I do to keep my plants alive and healthy??

(I'm really wanting to keep these new plants alive, theyre soooo cool, they have big black leaves with pink lines all over them....I've never seen anything like it before so I'm trying to take extra good care of them)

There should have been a tag with the plant with suggestions for watering and proper light. The very worst thing you do to a plant is to over-water it and/or let the pot sit in water. Overwatering will give the plants root rot. If the plant is meant for shade do not put it in the sun. In my esperience the gratest number of house plants due not like direct sunlight but prefer indirect light. Over fertilzing will kill them ,too. Generally fertilize only once a month and in moderation.. House plants need a domant period during which time you do not fertilize. I use a 3 month period in the coldest darkest part of winter for my plants to be dorment.Good luck and excuse the typos.

do your plants look anything like this?...

you need to have the tag....the name of the plant would let you look it up online and see what it needs to grow well.... like that one in the link?.... LOTS of water.... if it ever got dry or cold, either, it would die....
one thing that will help you NOT be a plant serial killer is to not buy plants just because you like the look of them... be realistic about what kind of home you can give a plant and then look for plants that fit THAT.... like, do you have a really bright window on the west side of the house?... or are all your windows kinda shady?.... do you have a sunroom?... got a skylight anywhere?.... that kind of thing decides how much light is available for a plant to use.... if there's not enuff or too much plants will let you know real fast by dying.....
find that tag!!...or go back where you got it and find another one WITH a tag and cop it!...

depends on the plant...eg indoor/outdoor, sunlover/shadelover..suit it's environment to the plant. Also, try liquid fertiliser or slow release fertilizer granules once or twice a year to help it flourish.
