Please answer me this because its a part of the equation I do not understand when California's governor wants everyone to have health insurance the Democrats are bent on insuring 40 million (Obama) citizens that don't now have health insurance; not how do you pay for the insurance but how is the present health care system suppose to care for them all?
I have heard it suggested that people with insurance won't flood the emergency rooms for sniffles - good - but won't they flood the doctors office instead? There are not enough nurses to go around now, not enough assistants to the nurses, not enough doctors, and not enough doctors offices to handle all of these extra insured. What is the plan by the left to fix that part of the equation or are they just ignoring it?

toddman I don't really want to see free health insurance handed out to all either, but being against it and having reasons to be against it are two different things...if you are against it some good reasons to be so might be in order?

mild irritant that is a slogan not a reality...you can't say that HMO's are going to lose and lawyers are going to lose and suddenly there is more health care - there are only so many nurses, doctors and assistants go around - not too mention actual medical facilities. NONE of that is addressed? And you want to add 40 million people to that already clogged system?

Now "g" ole buddy you missed my point - a particularly evil mood you must be in tonight. My point is not to let them eat cake, but would it not make more sense to increase the supply of health care services (and health care professionals) BEFORE we go putting 40 million extra folks into the already tight market place?

Todd -
You cant just say that everyone without insurance is good for nothing and just takes takes takes.
Imagine the people who go to school and work part time
-Or- Imagine those that have 2-3 part time jobs at the same time. Part time almost always = no insurance. Imagine being self employed, imagine the children of parents without healthcare...I could go on.
They could work more than you do and still have no insurance. And thats socialist? Thats not giving anything back?
EDIT: A lot of the responders that are against free health care seem to have the mis-guided notion that EVERYONE who lacks insurance is some unemployed deadbeat loser. Thats the problem with drawing a line in the sand and trying to categorize EVERYTHING in only 2 categories. The world is more complex than that and deserves more complex thought and consideration than "I'm not paying higher taxes so some deadbeat with the sniffles can stand in front of me at the doctor's office", but thats what the majority argument seems to be. I'm sure if budgets were balanced properly and funds were appropriated, that something could be worked out. Maybe not free health care, but something...something.
If you think that your tax money isn't already being misappropriated into other useless initiatives, then you're dead wrong.
Another thing, let's not pretend that the lower class are the only ones that abuse or take advantage of government services. Sometimes the white collars are the dirtiest ones.
And, my question to the OP, if they're arent enough Doctors, nurses, etc RIGHT NOW, then what is the plan by the right to fix that RIGHT NOW? I agree that this is all just lip service by the left to whip voters into a frenzy, but if the right wins, then what is the planned solution to the problem that you knowingly pointed out? I think it's careless to say that the left is wrong for suggesting this grandeose plan without the proper framework in place, when the current leadership ALSO knows that the framework is shotty and ALSO ignores it. It goes both ways, both partys are to blame. Dont spend 4 years spinning your tires saying that everything is a mess, take the first step, make things happen and do your part to clean up that mess.

Nobody says National Health Care is perfect because is not is better. The US spends more than any country in the world right now in our health system and we area ranked 37 in the WHO world's best. The top in the list are France which is National Health Care and Italy which is also National Health Care. Canada, UK, Australia and others also above the US.
They most be doing something right and better than what we are doing.
As to your concern of lack of medical personnel, the entire world seem to be facing the same problem. Making it not a sole problem of the system used but a totally different problem.

Who would want to be a Doctor if Socialists Health Care is implemented. The only ones that want it are the good for nothing dregs on society. All they are good at is taking and never put anything back. Truth hurts, start the thumbs down process lib Socialists.
Ok, here you go, your care would suffer immediately with long lines and red tape. Your wait times would increase significantly for the most routine of ailments. Your tax dollars would go up bigtime, who is going to pay for all this unless your not paying to begin with. That's just a few, but isn't that enough?

I believe 40 million people without health care should be covered. What kind of a country do you want? The US isn't at the top in infant mortality and life expectancy.
If you don't want the health care, don't take it! I'm sure nobody will force you. You could move to.... well, you couldn't move to any other industrialized country because they all have universal health care for their citizens.

well... that's a bit of a silly concern...
you train more... you place incentives to train more...
would you say that we should do away with education if there weren't enough teachers?
or how about the army if you had trouble getting soldiers?
there are clear needs that our society has... given to your ideas, there could be millions with no education or healthcare... just because it's "too much of a hastle to bother with"...
let them eat cake... right?

Don't give them that much credit. There is no thought behind any of their plans. The only thought is, I'll say I'm giving stuff away so people will vote for me. And it works because stupid people vote for them. It's like a 6th grade student council election:"When I'm president, it'll be unlimited Big Macs, candy, and soda every day at lunch!" No one wants to hear about how we have to have discipline so we can deal with our massive debt and the way we have grossly overextended ourselves with pensions and benefits for seniors before we are totally ruined financially. They want to be spoonfed sugar-coated nonsense, so that is what politicians do.

Simple.
You take away the BILLIONS of dollars currently going to HMO's and lawyers, and pay for ACTUAL MEDICAL SERVICES instead.
And oh by the way, if health care to all REALLY bothers you that much, how do you feel knowing that EACH and EVERY Iraqi citizen gets free, unlimited healthcare, courtesy of your tax dollars?

Except those billions, and more, will go to the corruption and waste that is inevitable when the government gets its hands in anything.
