Around 600 U.S. POWs are still being held in and around the mountainous region of Vietnam near the Laos border.

"The Pentagon continues to receive reports, as recently as this year, of live American POWs, and the government continues to keep those records from the public.", Le Boutillier says.

According to this account GHW Bush, Cheney, Mc Cain(this surprises me), Kerry and Colin Powell(also surprising) helped to cover this up in the Senate Selective Committee years ago!

I think this story, if true at any level, is not properly a political issue. It appears there are people on both sides of the aisle with knowledge, according to the authors.

It is an American tragedy.

As a soldier I agree, with the first poster, this is not a sole Bush and cabinet issue but a whole country issue, to include LBJ, NIXON, FORD, CARTER, REAGAN, BUSH SR, CLINTON and BUSH, and the all past congressman that have served from then till now. Also the Vietnam war was not a popular war, we cut and ran under intense public and political pressure, but we won the war Military wise in the battles fought, does that make sense to you, we cut and ran with out stabilizing the country. That lead to politicians of that era not caring about our captured boys, I have been to Vietnam in my career inn the military in the 90's and the 2000's, I pray everyday that all made it back and pray the heart and courage of those lost got them through all the rough days.

I don't know how this got elevated to such a mythic status, or why anyone on either side would care if any remaining POW were revealed & returned. Vietnam and America just aren't that hostile anymore. Heck, we're trading partners.

Maybe it's just an inability to let go of the failure of that war?

First I must say its sad that you make this an issue about GW Bush, Powell or Cheney. If this is real it was also an issue under Carter, Reagan, Ford, Bush Sr, and Clinton. It is not a partisan issue but you made it one - sad for you.

Second the answer as to why may be hard to hear - very hard for many family members and very very hard for veterans. The truth of the matter is the POW's may have chosen to stay there. It is quite possible we made attempts to bring them home that either failed or when they were contacted they wanted to stay. Remember if they went to war in 1970 at 20 years of age they'd be 57 years old now - they may very well be set in their ways.

I would think that after 35+ years anyone being held from the Viet Nam war would be dead. POW's tend to not live a long time due to malnutrition and poor living conditions.

Not just in Vietnam but other places as well. Ross Perot was very outspoken and passionate about getting our POW's home but thats all history now.

Yea, because a foreign government is really going to spend money on P.O.W's for a war that we have not been involved with for 35 years.

It's not true. Your link is a right wing pile of crap. I know many guys in special ops who have been to Vietnam numerous times and there is no evidence of any surviving troops living in Vietnam. None.

Ross Perot was largely ignored. Enjoy this link and the site.
