T = total weight
c = number clothing boxes
8-c = number of book boxes

so...

T = c(15) + (8-c)(60)
T = 15c + 480 - 60c
T = - 45c + 480

If 5 boxes contain clothing, this gives you

T = - 45 (5) + 480
T = -225 + 480
T = 255 lbs

Verify your answer by working the other way.

5 boxes @ 15 each is 75lbs.
If 5 boxes are clothes, the other 3 are books.
3 boxes @ 60 each is 180lbs.
Total weight is 75 + 180 = 255lbs

1. If c boxes contain clothes, 8-c boxes contain books. So the total weight is
T = 15(c) + 60(8-c)
= 15c + 480 - 60c
= 480 - 45c.

2. c = 5, so T = 480 - 45(5) = 255 lbs.

Umm, okay Carlos ---

1. 15c = T
Thought you only wanted the weight of boxes of clothes (?)

2. 5 (15) + 3 (60) = 75 + 180 = 255

Gee, actually, I'm not good at math.

Inflection factors are *available* the place f''(x)=0 or does no longer exist. And, i'm assuming you have a typo, so as that the 2d term is 19x², no longer 19x³. So: f'(x) = -42x² + 38x -a million f''(x) = -84x + 38. Then f''(x)=0 at the same time as x=38/eighty 4 = 19/forty 2. to make particular that this could be a authentic inflection ingredient, you may create a demonstration chart and coach that f''(x) > 0 for x<19/forty 2 and f''(x) < 0 for x>19/forty 2, and consequently that 19/forty 2 extremely represents a transformation in concavity of f (it rather is the definition of inflection ingredient). §
