There are so many choices these days, from pills to injections, you definitly need to speak to a good doctor to discuss what is best for you personally and make an informed decision because any medication can involve risks. My boyfriend and I use condoms because he wasn't happy with the list of possible side effects. I hope your partner is considerate and that you're not taking on the responsibilty of contraception by yourself.

i've used Ovcon for many years because I was very sensitive to the depression side-effects of some of the others I tried. Ovcon is great. No side-effects that I can tell.

If you really don't want a surprise, then you should also have another method. You can get him condoms, you can pick up foam or gel that's spermicidal, or you can get one of the more permanent or semi-permanent items offered by your dr.

Rem: antibiotics screw up the effectiveness of the birth control pill. So be sure to use a backup method at that time.

I used birth control alone and got one surprise.

I have been using the combined mini-pill; a few different ones over the years but they have all been effective birth control. The only reason I have swtiched was because a couple of them made me quite emotional - it's just a case of trying them out until you hit on the the right one for your body chemistry.

I always preferred this to the injections (where you don't get any periods), implants (for the same reason) or the implant which can (although it's unlikely) cause scarring and infection.

Depending on how convinced by it you are, you can always use condoms as well, to increase your faith in your contraception.

Good luck!

Go to the doctor and get a brochure on different types of birth control. You have to get what is best for you.

Theres so many out there it is best to talk to your dr. From personal experience, Depo Provera caused infertility for me for 5yrs, i've known a few people who have had the IUD and its broken up inside them and they've gotten pregnant without even knowing it broke.
I hate taking the pill as i'm very forgetful (luckily my hubby is fixed) but its about the only thing I would take without the risk of pregnacy or the risk of infertility (when taken properly)

go to your dr and ask them what they would suggest... every birth control is different for everyone. Your dr can put you on a birth control pill or method that is best for you.
