The "Black Land" was the fertile soil in the Nile Valley, which was (and is) darker in colour than the soils in the surrounding deserts.

Just to be clear, it is nothing to do with the skin colour of the people who lived there.

the fertile area near the Nile river was called the "black land" or "Kemet" while the "red land" or "Desheret" was the desert area beyond that.
