why is this century referred to as the 21st century seven though,numerically,the year is in the 2000s?

Because 0-99 are the First century thus making 100-199 the Second century and so on. This continues all the way to 1900-1999 being the 20th century which makes 2000-2099 the 21st.

The first century was those years prior to AD 100. The years starting with a 1 (101, 102, 103, etc.) are in the second century. Project this to these days.

The first century was 1-100 (not 99!). The second century wsa 101-200, and so on and so forth.

This is because the 1st century started in year 0001 and ends after 0099... thus 2nd century begins with 0100 and ends in after 0199... thus we have to always add 1 to the hundreth place, and now we are at 21st century covering 2000 to 2099...

Please learn to count. I suspect you had a big party on Dec 31, 1999 to celebrate the new century, which didn't infact begin for another year. This is indicative of our public education system failing it's students.
