What country do you plan to register it in?, some places require you to have permanent residency in order to register a car, the car would have to meet local safety regulations and have a technical inspection. You will also need insurance.
I would save the money it will cost you in shipping and all the inspection hassles and buy a car in Europe.

Umm... how much time have you spent in Europe, and are you aware of the standards you have to meet for autos? I would say, no, it's not worth it to ship your car over. Not unless it was a Lamborghini or something. Honestly, it can cost so much to ship a car over that it's better to buy new. Also, depending on which country you're going to register it under, it has to pass the inspections.

I'm not sure about other European countries, but in Germany you must.... (if I remember correctly)
-have a triangle caution sign, and a first-aid kit in the car.
-pass an inspection once every two years.
-pass an exhaust test once a year.
-have third party liability insurance.
And you must get a German driver's license w/in 6 months or you can't drive.

Inspections are very rigorous (and expensive! especially if you fail!) so it's really better to buy a new car. And keep in mind, although BMW and VW are expensive over here, they're not so expensive over there.
