There are caterpillars that infest pecan & walnut trees specifically. Datana integerrima called the walnut caterpillar, it is actually found in a range of trees. The moth, with a two-inch wing span, is brown & tan so a bit hard to find. The eggs are laid on the underside of the leaves in groups of several hundred. Removal of the green eggs is very effective but it requires diligent searching to find the egg mass. Bacillus thuringiensis works naturally. Trichogramma wasps lay their eggs on the caterpillar's eggs. These wasps would be good for you to use next year in May & again in July. They will kill some 20% of the eggs.
Right now try tree tanglefoot . This is a band of goo applied around the limbs & trunk the caterpillars are crawling on. Larvae move to the larger lower limbs and trunks to molt in a large group so the goo must be applied to block their path. Spray water to knock them from the tree.
Cut out heavily covered twigs or small branches and burn the caterpillars.

You gave your question quite a strange title, not very much related to the subject at all. I came here expecting a question about conservation. The people who could have given you a good answer probably passed it by. You should have mentioned walnuts and caterpillars in the question title.
