Apple's latest iPod players have failed to show up at over 5000 Wal-Mart stores nation-wide, despite earlier plans by the retailer to begin selling iPod shuffle this spring.
It's believed that Apple's lack of flexibility with the iPod's Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) may have slowed or halted earlier plans.
Instead, Wal-Mart last week began a pilot program with Hewlett-Packard to test sales of the company's re-branded 20GB iPod. Select stores around the country were recently shipped between 2 and 5 of the players to test the waters, per say.
Wal-Mart plans to retail the 20GB for the 'Every Day Low Price' of $298.92 -- a dollar and change below the model's MSRP

Their is a pretty good chance a new iPod coming out by Apple. So all the stores are trying to get rid of all their iPods that are in inventory. On Sept 5th their will be a press conference where SteveJobs (Apple CEO) will announce it. The new iPods are rumored to be like the iPhone but without the phone functions (calls, text, emails, etc.) but they might have WiFi (Wireless Internet) and they will have bigger screens at 3.5 inches.

Apple is releasing a new type of ipod although they haven't announced what is new about it. All of the stores have sold their last old models or sent them back in preparation for the newer models.

Yes, you may have to ask they probably have them locked behind the counters. I am sure, folks are still buying them. I have had mines, almost a year and I have had no problems with it.

You have to ask for them. Stores keep them locked up in the cabinet.
