I have a brother sister pair of ferrets of about 2 years old. Both of them sleep all night and almost all day, when we bring them out to play the boy lays around on the carpet or grass or wherever we bring them out and sometimes looks around or walks around for a minute but then lays back down n yawns a lot and just relaxes and when the girl is out she is non stop moving and digging if outside and jumping on everthing and after a couple hours shes tired and then we put them back in the cage and they sleep like theyve never slept. The female seems to get her exercise but the male gets none and everyone says ferrets are really hyper.

Yes this is normal. Just like humans, all ferrets have a different personality. Ferrets will sleep for around 20hrs at a time, waking up to go to the bathroom. They will also wake up, have a burst of energy, and then go right back to sleep. My ferret is almost three and since I got him he has done this, but now he is getting better. Also, if you just recently got the ferrets then they will soon adjust to your schedule so they will be awake when they know that you are available to play (ie. not at school or work or sleeping).

If you have him at the vets for regular check-ups and he/she says your ferret is healthy, then I wouldn't worry too much about it. Ferrets are known for sleeping 15-20 hours a day and males are usually (not always, but usually) more mellow than the girls. He could also be bored. Get him a new toy (something as simple as an empty box will do) to explore. Or try to interact with him a little more - get a blanket and lift it up and down over him, that usually gets my ferrets going! But, like I said, it's nothing unusual and if your vet is saying he's healthy, then I wouldn't worry about it.

If it's warm where you are and you don't have your air conditioning set to Freeze Your Butt Off mode, it could also be that they've slowed down due to the heat. Ferrets are very sensitive to warm weather and my guys slow down dramatically if it gets warm in the house.

Other than that, just pay attention to what is normal for your ferrets so that you can be alert to changes to that norm. My girl needs a ton of physical activity and both my boys tend to be a little more mellow, but I also notice them all slowing down more as they get older (they're 3 and 4)

Ferrets are crepuscular animals. They spend most of their time sleeping. Its just the way of the ferret. They are also just like people...they are all different.
