Lets be reasonable, he did commit a crime, but you are thinking with your heart and not with your head. In terms of legal punishments, 12 to 18 months is just about right for what he did.

I'm not condoning what he did, but it won't land him in jail for more than 2 years when he has absolutely no previous convictions on his record.

Sorry, didn't read your full question. As for the 2nd part, I think after he does his time he should be allowed to play. Now whether some team owner wants to sign him is up to that team, but if someone is willing to sign him, the NFL shouldn't block this.

I think he should get the applicable jail time, after which time he should be able to be considered for reinstatement to the NFL. I doubt, however, that there will be anyone interested in signing him. What he did was horrific and low class.

I think he should serve some time, but as far as loose his football career, I think not.
