I don't get it. Have people actually got upset because people sang the national anthem in Spanish? Would they prefer it not be sung at all? To me it's a way of the Spanish speakers saying how much they love the USA

I don’t necessarily have a problem with people singing the National Anthem in Spanish. Now, that being said, I think that the problem with it is that it segregates people who insist on being different. People who come to the U.S. should have to speak English and try to “fit in” (for lack of better wording). Otherwise soon everybody is sticking with those that do or speak like they do and they basically estrange themselves from others, whether because they feel different or because they are treated differently.
I believe that is where the problems start. It starts segregating groups by where they come from, same reasons some gangs get started. I know the U.S. is made up of all different people and that’s why it’s so great and that’s true but . . . it is the UNITED States, people can’t mingle or be united if they insist on using a language that isolates themselves.
My best friend sense grade school, though born in the U.S., had illegal parents if she always spoke Spanish we wouldn‘t have been BFs or have stayed BFs for nearly 30 years because I sucked at Spanish when we first met.

I'm an extremely open-minded person; but, since this is an English speaking country, there should be no obligation to provide anything (whether written or spoken) in languages other than English. That being said, it irritates me when such provisions are made (but not for the reason you may think). When such provisions are made, they usually only include one (or a few) language (languages). This preferential treatment is what I disapprove of. Why should Spanish speakers be afforded the opportunity to hear the national anthem in their language while that same benefit isn't given to French speakers, German speakers, Chinese speakers, etc...? I realize that it would be ridiculous to expect that everything be provided in all languages spoken in this country, which is precisely why I think nothing should be provided in anything other than English.

Since a basic premise of this country is "United we stand, divided we fall", It is logical that all ethnic backrounds join together and celebrate in one voice and language. Certainly bring other cultures and languages here, but don't segrerate the ethnicities into little versions of the countries the people left. Melt them all together into a stornger unit with a unified future. If you want to see a place that is shallow and not open minded or accepting of others, pick any country that has a strong migration of its population to America and fly your American flag in front of its capitol building. talk to the locals that greet you. Enjoy disscusing that you deserve all the rights and privledges of its citizens without you having to contribute or pay your own way. Pass out a brochure about your chosen religion, and maybe initiate a conversation about womens rights, or even tell them the people of their country suck, but you will be staying awhile anyway.

So you are complaining that other people are narrow minded because they don't think just like you. Are you so clueless as to not see the contradiction there. It doesn't bother me for any song to be sung in any language. But I'm capable of being able to understand why some might take it as a bad omen. To be a legal American citizen requires mastery of the English language. They might interpret singing the anthem in Spanish as being for illegal immigration. There are some who are advocating that all states bordering Mexico become part of Mexico. Some might see the singing in Spanish as support of that. But all this means seeing the view point of someone else. That would probably be a novel experience for you.

If it were to be sung at a national event or in school it should have to be in English. If there are Spanish speaking people that sing it in Spanish to themselves that's fine, but we shouldn't have to make Americans that speak only English have to learn it in Spanish or any other language for that matter. This is America, English is not only our primary language it is the language most used worldwide. If you want to be American and survive you have to learn English period. People that come here have to adapt to our way of doing things here, we don't have to adapt to doing things the way they do it where they come from.

Gee can we have at least one thing that can stay American? It's bad enough when we make a phone call, and have to click 1 to continue in English. I think the National Anthem should only be in English period. I don't see Americans going to other countries singing their anthems in English, and they probably forbid it. Let's keep one thing for ourselves for crying out loud. We have already given up everything else.

Let's get this straight. The National Anthem of the United States of America is just that. It is the history of our struggle to create our nation and is sung proudly as an American. It isn't the Mexican national anthem, or the British or the German or whatever. If people are coming here to be part of the American culture and way of life, they need to assimilate and become American. I don't have time for people who suck up our taxes, cost real Americans more money, and don't wish to be part of the heritage that give the freedoms everyone so desperately wants. Learn it, live it, love it.....or stay in your own country.

Everyone who came to America from Europe, China, etc. in the early 1900's and before learned how to speak English. We did not have to accommodate them at that time so why should we do it now. Learn to speak the language or get out. Apparently the Spanish speaking people can not not master the English language like the Italians, Russians, Chinese, Koreans, and so on did for the past 100 years.

For the last 4 centuries ALL immigrants to America have learned to speak English. Why? Because English is the language used in America. They realized they were no longer in their home country and needed to adapt and fit in. If today's immigrants love their old country so much that they want to bring it to America then perhaps they should stay home. In America there should be one language English. To sing the National Anthem in any other language is an insult to all Americans and all veterans who have given their lives to defend it. Semper Fi.
Just my Opinion.

People have no business singing The National Anthem in any other language but English. That is how it has always been and that is how it should remain! If you want to come to this country you need to learn to sing our songs the way they are or don't sing them at all.
EDIT: Mr. Ed, if they love the U.S.A. so much they can take the time to learn our National Anthem the way it has always been sung.
