What you need ;
1. Time and patience, lots of it, they poop and pee constantly, steal things and hide them, usually car keys!! They are not a cage animal and should be let out most of the day with 4 hours being the absolute minimum - they will sleep lots but should be able to run around when they want.
2. A sense of humour, they are the funniest creatures in the world and their antics will have you rolling on the floor with laughter.
3.A good metal cage, 2 stories minimum, with hammocks, and lots of old towels or tee-shirts for them to snuggle in. A good rule is 1 floor for each ferret you have.
4. Litter pans - about 200 will do it! Joke, they won't look for pans so you need to have at least 2 in the main room you plan to keep him in and if you plan to let them run round the house you'll need pans all over.
5. Ferret proofed rooms to let them run in, making sure there's nothing they can hurt themselves on or damage.
6. Good quality FERRET food - check out the best one and buy this.
7. A savings fund just for your ferret, they are prone to cancers and blockages from things getting stuck in their intestines which are very small (hairballs included)
8. Toys - these don't have to be expensive, boxes filled with rice or shredded paper, old tubes (carpet tubes or dryer hose is great) Old towels to shake at them so they can jump on for ferret rides, plastic bags with handles cut off so they can't hurt themselves, that kind of thing. The best toy for them is YOU - they love human interaction and love to be chased.
9. Acceptance - they WILL smell but it shouldn't be offensive if you clean cage and litter well and don't bath them too much - they produce more smelly oils the more you bath them. They WILL poop out of the litter pan even though you spent weeks of patient training, they WILL find a way out of that door even though it means digging up all of the nice carpet you have in the room. They WILL bite your feet if you're not playing when they want you to or you have socks or tights on! They WILL knock off all your favourite ornaments, even the one which was your great great great great grandmother's.

If all this hasn't put you off and you do get a ferret, and you give it the best life you can then you will fall totally and utterly in love with it and wonder how you put up with such a boring life before it arrived!

They are very messy and require allot of work. They mess allot.
You will need a steel wire cage and something for them to walk on top (like limbs or sticks) their bed needs to hang from the top of the cage and I used newspaper for the bottom. You could get one with a removable bottom and use wood chips, but that could get expensive. You need to have food and water on the top of the cage beside the limbs or sticks. You will have to change the water every day and the bottom every 3 to 4 days, It could last to every week depends on what you use. I would still use newspaper because it soaks the urine up and you can just lay new down. altogether you will spend about $50 to $100 getting supplies, not to count the wood chips if you use them. But the paper does not cost as much..

They are alot of fun to own. I had one for about 9 years, and from what I remember, (haven't had one now for 9 years) she ate normal ferret food, and loved to play. Little cat spongee balls is what I remember her playing with. I let her run free, with a designated toilet area, she was easy to train. They should run you about 100 dollars. Alot like cats, but not as much work as a dog. They do need alot of attention though, and love to play!!

I had a ferret at one time, he replaced into the terrific puppy ever!! He used to do the comparable situation, telling me he had to play. I have been given a brilliant form of toys for him to play with. He cherished long cardboard tubes, puppy toys that shook and moved on their very own and straightforward ones like a mouse on the top of a string. as long as Eve isn't biting the different time, she ought to easily be bored and finding for interest. supply her a brilliant form of interest the situations that she is conscious, they do sleep lots, and the foot biting could end.
