Ask the Muslims they will burn down entire cities if you flush the Qur'an. Of course their reaction is not a crime because theirs is the "Religion of Peace"

It isn't. Some people would like for us to believe it's one, but fortunately we still have a little thing called the Constitution standing in the way of that kind of silliness.
There's a frightening number of misconceptions about what a hate crime is, so let's clear it up. A true hate crime is VIOLENCE against another person motivated by bigotry. It's that simple; no ifs, ands, or buts. Hate speech isn't a crime in itself, but could be used as evidence of a hate crime if the person who said those things also committed a violent act. Throwing a book in a toilet is like hate speech. It isn't a crime in itself, but it might be brought up as evidence of a hate-based motive if the person doing it was also guilty of a violent crime.

I threw a book in the toilet in school in 7th grade.
This was probably in 1991 or 1992. The assistant principle told me he hadn't heard of anything like that since the nazi's burned books! HA
The books title was "on fire".
I didn't like the book and felt it belonged in the toilet.
Throwing a book in the toilet is straight up " freedom of expression", and should not be considered any sort of crime.

It all depends on which book it is I guess, if it were me, it would be a hate crime to throw the Bible in the toilet, no doubt... bc/ The Holy Bible is the sacred and inspired Word of the Almighty Creator of Earth!

Depends on the book. Though I have never heard of anyone being arrested for throwing a book in a toilet.

that would be determined by the intent, of the person doing the throwing, if they are doing so in order to offend, or cause distress, or to provoke another to violent, negative reaction then Yes it is a hate crime. Proving intent in a court of law is often tough. If I throw punches at your head without connecting, Do you have cause to take offense or violent reaction? it is hard to argue that my punches were not intended to cause pain or provoke you, but a book is harder to argue the same logic, but similar effect

I think we have to petition our law makers to redefine what a hate crime really is. We should also demand that they investigate whether hate crime laws are really needed.

That never happened, but it is not
Of course france outlawed giving meals with pork in it to homeless shelters because it may offend somebody.
In my day, we tossed m-80's in toilets. Much more fun !
