CD-Rs, are they supposed to smell funny?

I bought some Memorex CD-Rs (100 pack) off Amazon and got them today. When I took the shrink wrap off them and took the first CD off the spindle, I noticed that it had a really strong odor. It's similar to the smell of paint and those super bounce balls, very chemically. This is the first time I've used this brand. Is that normal?

Yes. That's the fresh paint on top of the disks or the freshly made disks themselves. Remember, they didn't have a chance to air out before they wre package.
