Cuban Americans. Short and simple answer. They are a powerful voice in politics, and they want the embargo to continue. Any politician that has ever suggested we lift the emabargo, or lift some sanctions, has committed political suicide in Florida. Obama is, or shall, feel the heat from his statements in Florida. And that's why we still have an embargo on Cuba.

It appears to be an ego thing. The US supported Castro 's take over of Cuba and then got their feelings hurt when he became a friend of the USSR. I suspect that the sanctions will be lifted when Castro dies. Which, to me, speaks poorly of our nation's intentions.
As you stated, the cold war is over. Cuba is not a threat. Yet US politicians are more than willing to make deals with China which is far worse than Cuba. Corporations see more money in China so they ignore their horrific human rights issues. Meanwhile we have a next door neighbor that the US is keeping in poverty.

It's a holdover from the cold war. It is silly, and should have been ended long ago. I expect that it would have been ended in the Clinton administration if the Cuban lobby wasn't so strong.

We circulate a million/2 way around the realm to,****, i do no longer understand why,besides, to i'm informed "rescue" who? somebody? and there's a rustic ninety miles from us who we sanction and don't help.This united states of america, the US, is so f*cked up, Ben Franklin is possibly saying, "what the fu..,what did you are attempting this for,get the fu.. , guy you adult males are previous help".

Simply because of it's location and the history of your dealings with it. Better to be safe than sorry. Your government is all about domination. Always has been and will remain that way until it is destroyed.
