I seriously doubt that Shoeless Joe Jackson won the MVP of the 1919 World Series as a member of the losing team.

According to this chart there was no World Series MVP awarded until 1955, so if you're hoping for the answer to be Shoeless Joe, I have to say "it ain't so."

I don't think that's the right choice of verb -- "retracted" would be closer, though since it was never officially announced that still doesn't hit the mark.

In Game 6 of the 1986 World Series, with Boston leading 5-3 in the bottom of the tenth and needing one out for the championship, the scoreboard at Shea offered congratulations to the MVP-designate for the Series, Red Sox southpaw Bruce Hurst.

But then the game got away, and things turned out differently, and when Game 7 was over two nights later the MVP was given to NY's Ray Knight.
