The "Precambrian era" is an outdated term (though still widely used) of 89% of the time of the Earth's history. The major events are too numerous to iterate in a short answer. The event referred by geo3598 is really called the Cambrian Explosion. It refers the Icehouse/Greenhouse of Edicarian glaciation at the end of the Proterozoic Eon (Icehouse) and the sudden global warming of the Cambrian at the onset of the Phanerozoic Eon (Greenhouse).
