There's three sides of the triangle. Starting opposite from the 90 degree angle they are the adjacent, the opposite, and the hypotenuse. (I'm not sure if these are the 'official names'. That's what we called them back when I was in high school.) The hypotenuse is the slanted top, the 'opposite' is the vertical side and the 'adjacent' is the bottom of the triangle, the one that's level.
The sine is the ratio of the opposite to the hypotenuse.
In other words, imagine you are driving up a big hill. The road up the side of the hill represents the hypotenuse. The amount you are climbing represents the opposite side. The sine is the ratio between how far you've driven and how much elevation you've gained.

Ok . . . this is going to sound weird but when I was at school, we were taught things to help us remember how to work out sin, cos and tan.
Firstly, you need to work out the sides of the triangle. Each needs to be given a name. The hypotenuse is the longest side, which is the one opposite the right angle. The adjacent side is the side which is between the angle in question and the right angle. The opposite side is opposite the angle in question.
Using these names for the sides of the triangle, we were taught a rhyme to help us work out the angle. It's:
The Old Arab Sat On His Camel And Hiccoughed
Basically
Tan = Opposite/Adjacent
Sin = Opposite/Hypotenuse
Cos = Adjacent/Hypotenuse
Hope this helps and that I've not confused you too much :(

soh cah toa
Sine=Opposite/hypotanuse
Cosine=Adjacet/hypotanuse
Tan=opposite/adjacent
to find the sine of any angel just divide the length of the side opposite of that angle by the length of the hypotanuse

to use the sine, cosine, and tangent. your triangle must be a right triangle
sine = opposite side / hypotenuse
cosine = adjacent side /hypotenuse
tangent = opposite side /adjacent
(those are divided by)
