It has to be Swan Lake for me. I first saw this performed by Karen Kain and Frank Augustyn when they were still in the child's chorus of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet in 1964. They eventually became the principal dancers for the National Ballet of Canada, and only retired a short while ago.

I will never forget the sheer MAGIC of the first performance I ever saw.

I love Swan Lake and The Red Shoes. I saw the latter
when I was a child taking ballet lessons. I was just
enchanted by it. Still am. My mother was a ballet teacher.
Give me a good ballet anytime.

or the season just is not complete.
I saw a lovely Giselle done by the Dance Theatre of
Harlem once too. Bravo and Brava!

"Les Sylphides", "Giselle", "Billy the Kid", "Rodeo" ...and always "Coppelia". There were giants in those days... Alicia Markova, Margot Fonteyn, Robert Helpmann, Danilova, Rosella Hightower, Igor Youskevitch...all entered their roles, acted their parts, and were brilliant athletes who understood the story and its music. Can't remember the male dancer in "Spectre of the Rose", but he was amazing too...I saw it as a feature film with him in the starring role. "Tales of Hoffmann" [film] had just about everyone in it...including Leonid Massine and Mia Plisetskaya in their twilight times.

"Rodeo" by Aaron Copeland. And any other American ballet. To me there is a vibrancy and energy in American dance which is unique.
