How much did your Koi Pond cost you? I'm looking at building a roughly 2,000 gallon Koi pond, probably a bit smaller though.

My wife dug her's by hand, about 1700 gallons, so that didn't cost anything. The liner and the underlayment was about $300. We bought it on line and got free shipping. Depending on the type of filters you want to use the cost could be $300 to $1000. We are using a pressurized filter with a uv light. The filter and pump were around $400. So the answer to this question is, whatever you want to spend. You can get buy for less but filtration is vital to the health of the pond. I know this doesn't help but there is no clear answer. You could keep it simple or make it as complex as you want.

You should be able to build one yourself for under $1000. I will caution you though, you should only do this if you already have the necessary tools and know how for large outdoor landscaping projects. If you hire some one you are looking at over $1000. Really it depends on how complex you want the project to be there are many variables to consider.

If you are a beginner then you will save money paying someone $2000 rather than trying to DIY it for $1000. Mistakes and time will be very costly and you risk building a pond that will not properly sustain the koi. Do lots of research and or you will be wasting lots of money.

Nothing if you use cardboard versions.
