I was have a charge of malicious wounding....HELP!!!?

Question

I was alone at a bar and a guys started picking on me, I had a lot to drink that night too, I didn't provoke his attention nor egged him on.

It got to the point in my mind that I feared for my saftey

I struck the guy in the face a good 5 times with my car keys

I'm about 5'4" 120 lbs and have no priors, I'm mild manored, I've taught in elementary school, I'm a college student and plan to join the navy after school.

what are the chances I'm going to jail

what are the chances that I get the felony droped to a misdemnor on grounds that I was in self defense mode

would I have a right to call this self defense

he did not push or hit me first but he was being verbal to the point where I though it might go that way

I didn't consciously use my keys, it all happen so fast and without thought.

I am really upset over what I did


any advice, I'm getting a lawyer

Wait to talk to your attorney. Most likely you can plead out to something minor. Look at Sen. Craig. He supposedly propositioned for gay sex and plead to disorderly conduct. No worries. You can probably just get a little probation time.

Get the lawyer. Spend lots of money. All the money you have and borrow as much as you can too.

Ask for referrals for the best lawyers. Then ask the best lawyers who are good until you are inside your price range. Many lawyers are very very bad and do not work hard at all. Or have a poor record before the jury. You better do your homework.

Think of it as very serious. The world is getting connected and it will take an employer a couple of microseconds to pull up your file. It is not something you can run away from.
