I have always liked John Wayne's acting especially with his leading lady Maureen O'Hara. What is your opinion of this actor?

John Wayne was a great actor, I think "The Quiet Man" was his best movie. He had a suprising range, it's too bad he's mostly remembered for playing cowboys and soldiers. But his comedic "Mclintock!" showed how funny he could really be. He did make a few clunkers (The Conquerors was a terrible film as was The Barbarian and the Geisha) that showed there was a limit to his range, but overall he was the epitome of a Hollywood superstar and an underrated actor.

I had the distinct pleasure of meeting John Wayne at NBC when he was doing a Bob Hope Show. I was in charge of continuity for a skit he was doing and he came up to me after the show and thanked me for being patient with him. I almost fainted. I've lived in the Los Angeles area for 51 years and I have never heard a bad thing said about John Wayne. From what I saw, he was a gentle, kind person. I'm not too sure about his acting. He had said that he just read the lines like they were written and followed the director's cues. It's still my dream to meet Maureen O'Hara before I die.

One of the greatest and most respected actors ever. I've never seen a John Wayne movie I didn't like. even the clunkers that someone else mentioned earlier had some redeeming qualities. I do admit that it was hard trying to believe him as a mongol.
Excellent question, you get a star.

the priority that's which you're utilising usually twenty first century techniques (from the Nineteen Eighteen Eighties onward) to decide a guy whose critiques have been developed in the Nineteen Thirties, 40s and 50s, while his thinking became into normative. Make that discrepancy clean on your paper.

He worked hard on the jobs he had as an actor and I think he was pretty good at acting and had a broad range. His life was spent in a hay day for Hollywood.

Yea well ya know, while I enjoyed some of his movies I don't think you can compare him to any of the, what I'll call today's actors,Dustin Hoffman,Sean Penn ,Jack Nicholson( spelling?)to name a few. It was a different era,not as realistic as it has to be today. Now that I think about it,it's not fair to compare as I have.
Yes his movies are classic and as I said I enjoy some of them.
An interesting question. Thanks
