For a shape-shifting coyote like myself it is the way I chose to perceive the present situation, anything known is the past and the future is the past of the present, tis true. If a truth would be known, we are all tricksters.

Hi,
Where you are going provides the inspiration, the hope, anticipation and motivation. Once you've been there you might not be the same person as you are this very moment because you will have assimilated the new experiences and perhaps changed your understanding/belief/philosophy because of this.
Where you have been makes you who you are today. Your genes, your childhood experiences helped shape you. Your experiences in adult life and how you've responded to life's ups and downs, the person inside has also played its part in helping to shape you.

Actually, the answer is both. Your shape comes from where you have been because without it, you have no idea where you wish to go. The dream/desire to become better derives from where you were in your past. That dream becomes a journey into the future you want to make your own.

experiences, and resulting understanding has effect of shaping me most.

I have bee Here only. I am not going Any Where.

Why ? ... The idea of going somewhere is leading one to Futuristic Thinking and takes one away from the Living or Being in Now.

How ?.. can be practiced by slowing practising daily in touch with one's inner reality . This will get us in tune with ourselves. The process sounds simple but takes lot of Pateience and perseverance , years of practice.

You are shaped by what has happened, not by what maybe. Think of it this way, can you stand back from a blank canvas and feel the meaning, depth, and inspiration from the artist before he makes his first stroke? Any thoughts and feelings you may have come from experience and you cannot experience what is, or is not, until it has come to pass.

Where you have been is who you are, where you are going is who you wish to be, that path is an unknown and susceptible to the natural chaos of life. What shapes us the most is the everyday struggle to be

Since you don't know the future (where you're going), I would say 'where you have been' plus what you did while you were there would dictate what shape you are in at the present.

Where I have been. Because eventually where I am going will become where I have been. It's a cycle. But we learn from the past, without it we would be useless. It takes pain and suffering to appreciate life.

Where I have been because it's why I am the person I am today. Without my past experiences I would be a different person. The past is past and the future is still unknown.
