I recieved 2 bettas last october and i have kept them in a divided tank. They've both been really healthy but now one of them has been acting weird. He'll like sit inbetween the leaves of his fake plant and when he swims up to the surface he looks as if something is pulling him back down. And then sometimes he lies on the gravel like he's dead. The other one is completly normal.

is there something wrong with him?

You're betta may be sick or stressed out. Do they see each other in the divided tank? If they do, they will always flare at each other and this is not healthy for bettas. This may be a reason for your betta's behavior. A sign of stress is the fading of their colored bodies to a translucent to almost transparent (Cambodian bettas do not exhibit this sign). The water temperature should not go below 80 F. Colder than this, bettas will be vulnerable to diseases. One of my bettas got pop-eye during the rainy season when it is very cold. Do not feed your bettas during cold days or feed them minimally.

The best way you should do is to separate your bettas. Do not place them in a divider tank specially if your divider tank is the one where the divisions share water. This is to make sure they don't get infected with diseases from each other and to lessen stress due to excessive flaring. I suggest you give your sick betta live foods such as mosquito larvae, worms, baby crickets and others as these are healthy foods. Also try using a real plant. My bettas love them. Your betta may also be just bored. Put him in a bigger tank than his division quarter. Most specially handle him with extra caution as you don't want to stress him further. And do not overfeed your betta! Bettas' stomach is just as big as their eyes. Overfeeding them will elad to bladder problems and can be fatal. Good luck to your betta!

I'd have to say without knowing more, this sounds like a problem with the swim bladder. More specifically, that he doesn't have enough air in it to maintain his buoyancy.

This is most often a problem with the diet, where he's not getting enough fiber, or overfeeding. If he's still eating well, try feeding him a piece of a cooked green pea with the outer skin taken off (you can give some to your other betta as well - I give it to mine once a week to help prevent swim bladder trouble).

If this doesn't help after a few days, he may have an internal infection, which will require antibiotic treatment.

Yes it will die soon, or it's sick, My betta did that for a few weeks, then it was finally dead at the bottom, but took forever, it was sad to watch

There could be something wrong with his air bladder. It's what keeps him boyant, I don't know if that's what it's really called, but that's the basic idea.

I don't really know what to tell you.

ya it sounds like he is sick. check the water conditions and temp. if there fine he could just be one of those fish that are not meant to live very long.
