My stepfather was my hero. When I was still in school, my mother and two brothers died. Later, my father committed suicide, which left me totally alone and homeless. I was eventually adopted by a former teacher of mine, and he became my stepfather. He was retired, had no kids of his own, and had no reason to take in a troubled kid like me. But he did, and gave me endless help and guidance. He has since passed on, and I miss him every day. I took care of him during his final days and held his hand while he died. He was truly my superhero.

My cousin is soft spoken guy 29 years old about 5"8 an 200 pounds from new york city. When I heard he was joining the navy I thought it was great. But I hadn't seen him in about 6 years. He ended up becoming a navy seal. He got threw the toughest military training known to man, went threw 4 years of intensive training and went to Afghanistan.

He was awarded the silver star and the purple heart. With over 162 confirmed enemy kills, 19 captures of high ranking Taliban, 3 high ranking members of Al-Qaida and liberated over160 Afghans from Taliban rule. He did the things you will only see in a movie.

In one mission his leg was blown apart. An was amputated. After spending time in the hospital and getting a new leg, he chose to go back into the seal teams, where he returned to Afghanistan. He came home for good, a few months ago with a thick beared scared hands and bad tan from the Afghan sun. I asked him why he chose to do what he did.

He told me some thing like " when I saw my two towers fall and 3000 of my people die, all I wanted to do was bring death to the door step of those who thought they can get away with it."

I mean I guess I don’t believe in revenge in most circumstances, but without people like that, we as America wouldn’t exist. All I ever considered for a hero were rock stars, movie stats, athletes an such and here comes this guy who is an average person who over came so much, all that pain, all that death, he went threw life changing events for America. And no one will ever even know his name.

It would have to be my father. Not because he was a kind man, he wasn't, nor because he was a loving man, he wasn't., but what he taught me in his own way are things I carry with me today.

He was not very successful in life in many ways. Financially he was hopeless. He was hopeless, at best, from a commitment stand point

But what he instilled in me was a basic morality and a work ethic that allowed me to do, and have, what I have today.

In today's politically correct world, he would have been arrested. He would have been condemned as an abuser. He would have been vilified for not "sharing" his emotions with me.

But that's the kind of man that he was. He did the best he could. And who can ask more from somebody than that?

Was he a "super hero"? No.

But, he did the best he could.

And that's good enough for me.

All in all, I'm glad he was my father.

my dad. he has done without for many years to make sure my siblings and i had a roof over our head, food to eat, clothes on our backs. He is one of the most hard working, honest men you will meet. He does what is right because it's the right thing to do, not because it will benefit him in any way.

he is a great example to my children and I am very fortunate to have him in my life.

I love my daddy
