But seriously, it is pretty annoying when people type like that all the time.

Hmm... Why can't some people do proper sentence construction?
I was referring to the way you constructed your sentence. It would have been better if you stated it this way:
Why can't some people spell correctly?
(The word correctly is the adverb modifying the verb spell...) Just a thought. Peace! =)
In answer to your question, some are just too lazy or dumb to spell words properly.

It could be a couple reasons: they were not taught phonics (how words and/or letter combinations sound) in their elementary grades and probably because their TEACHERS didn't study them either. Too many times schools use the "sight reading" method today--you see a group of letters in a certain order and that is what the word is. A second reason could be all the instant text messaging, chat rooms' slang (like lol, lmao, etc), and typing a shortened version of the word in order to type faster.

You read to spell, and spell to read. People don't read enough, read carefully enough, or read what is worth reading.
