I have a tank with 2 mollies a male betta and 2 white clouds . Yesterday to my surprise, my white clouds had babies!! There were a bunch of little fishes swiming around. But sadly, most of them got eaten by the mollies. There are a few left, but i don't know if they will survive. WHat should I do next time this happens?! And how can I tell if the White Cloud is going to have babies again!! I want to know so i can separate them before they have eggs and whatever. Do I feed teh fish tewh same food, and is it okayu to leave the parents in the same tank as the little ones. PLEASE HELP!

The white clouds are egglayers, so you would need to have another tank set up for the to spawn, then move the parents back to the original tank so the eggs and fry aren't eaten. About the only way you'll be able to tell when this is about to happen is the female (should be not as bright of a red and with less white on the fins) will become plumper as the eggs develop. Here are some links about spawning them: http://www.aquarticles.com/articles/breeding/shaw_whitecloud.html , http://www.aqualandpetsplus.com/Minnows,%20White%20Clouds.htm You'll need to prepare for this ahead of time, since the fry will be too small to eat the food that you give the adults. You'll need to have a culture of infusoria ready by using a large glass jar to pour bouling water over a lettuce leaf, then when this cools, adding a little water and "gunk" from the bottom of the tank. Keep this in a warm, well lit area and it'll be ready in about a week.

Are you positive it wasn't one of the mollies that spawned? These are livebearers, and will give birth to new fry about every 28 days. Even if there's no male in the tank, the females can store sperm and continue to give birth for up to six months after being separated. These fry can be fed fish flakes that the adults eat, they'll just need to be crumbled to a smaller size. You can use a breeding net and put the female in it just before she's about to give birth (she'll be very fat and the abdomen will look almost square, plus you may notice dark patches on either side of her belly toward her tail, and she'll become less active and try to hide). The other option is to use a lot of plants (don't have to be real ones) in the tank and the babies will hide in these.

always separate the babies from the parents. Ive had guppies but I never had white clouds so this is coming from guppy experience. your mollies (if they are female and male) will also have babies, and with mollies you should look for a black spot by the anal fins, when she starts to square off then put her in a breeding net or separate tank. when the babies are born (mollies give live birth) take the mother out and put her in the other tank. feed the fry finely crushed flake food or regular fish food finely crushed or newly hatched brine shrimp.

when your clouds have babies try to separate the babies from the other fish. your betta fish WILL eat the babies (my betta ate my guppy fry =[ ) so will the mollies. you can keep the cloud babies in a breeder net inside the main tank, but this should be a temporary fix, it is highly recommended for the babies to have a separate cycled tank, 10gals is good but if this is not possible, wal-mart has nice 2.5 to 5.0 minibow tanks with filter and filter cartilage for under $30 bucks, they work great. feed them the crushed flake food until they get big enough where they are bigger than the mouth of your biggest fish (es). you can also provide dense or more plants in your aquarium for the little fishes to hide in if you are late in catching all of them.

good luck and here is a great site that can help.

it wasnt your white cloud that had babies. They are egg layers. If you saw just live babies without any eggs, then its your Mollys that had the fry. Mollies are the easiest fish to breed.

Just go to this web site. You should keep the babies away from the other big fish. Otherwise you wont have any left.
