The cinemas still run the film to an empty house just in case someone shows up late for the film.

... if this happens repeatedly, they'll cut back on the number of showings & eventually replace the film with something else.

Generally, yes unless its a late showing then they dont. The reels are set on timers and a manager has to reload the the film reels each time after it rewinds.

Yes, they would do it gor about a week and in that week if they dont make any income then they cut that movies' time short
